From GoldDerby: “Brad Pitt has now been proclaimed the top film producer for both television and film this year. He won Monday night at the Emmys as executive producer of Best TV Movie “The Normal Heart.” He took home the Best Picture trophy at the Oscars in March for “12 Years a Slave.”

These are his first victories at both of these awards shows. It was his second career nomination at the Emmys, with the first in 2002 as a guest actor on “Friends.” At the Academy Awards, he has lost all three acting bids (“Twelve Monkeys,” 1995; “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” 2008; “Moneyball,” 2011) and one for Best Picture (“Moneyball,” 2011).

HBO’s “The Normal Heart” is an adaptation of Larry Kramer’s play about the beginnings of the AIDS crisis in New York during the 1980s. In the Best TV Movie category, it defeated “Killing Kennedy,” “Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight,” “Sherlock: His Last Vow,” and “The Trip to Bountiful.”

The film “12 Years a Slave” was adapted from a true-life book by former slave Solomon Northup in the 19th century. At the Oscars, it defeated “American Hustle,” “Captain Phillips,” “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Gravity,” “Her,” “Nebraska,” “Philomena,” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

In a very short period of time, Pitt has accomplished half of the coveted EGOT status with his Emmy and Oscar wins. So far in his caeer, he has received no Grammy or Tony Awards nominations.”
